Look What I Found

I discovered a thread in the Alcoholism section called: "You know you are an active alcoholic when....."

A real eye-opener from the other side of the coin. Very thought provoking.
Answers a lot of "questions" that are often voiced in this forum.

While some of our threads--like "Quackers" and "Normies wouldn't know" are very funny (in a sad kind of way)---humor is noticably lacking in the posts by alcoholics.

I wasn't expecting that......

I think it is worth taking a look.....

Go to Alcoholism page and put the above title in the bar at the top of the page--the one that says "search"

dunno, but I think they may think of some more of that is grim funny than it appears.

dunno.

but is sort of sounds like the stuff they may say at an AA meeting, and then they all laugh together.

odd walk through the other side.

Thanks.

I don't know, I can imagine my abf and his friends sitting around saying these things and sadly laughing about them, thinking they are hilarious.

Yea, same here. Mine (I hate calling him mine) thinks its hilarious to joke about the time he peed in the washer and makes cracks about his violence towards me

None the less, its interesting to read something from the other side and gives me a little more perspective as to what goes on in their head.

Just sadder and sadder the further you go through through that.

AND THEN . . . there was a link to THIS by DG0409

That's a little (A WHOLE FREAKING LOT) better.

I was just reading that thread last night. Some of it is very funny and I can relate as I used to drink heavily myself. Sometimes you just have to laugh to deal with the pain and shame.

That thread is very eye opening. I'm going to my fave al-anon group tonight. It has lots of "double winners." I gain so much perspective about the other side.

I guess as I read through the thread, I felt like the vast majority of the responses were coming from a place of "I cannot BELIEVE I used to think/act that way." Only a few times did I feel like people were joking about or making light of their behaviors. I found the thread sad, and very eye-opening about things my AH has done and said.

That thread is a bit of an eye opener, but also depressing (from my point of view) ...so many alcoholics focussing on hiding the extent of their drinking, where mine sees nothing wrong with the amount he drinks - because, of course, he's not as bad as (random friend/relative/acquaintance). It's still a good read, though - some of it is pretty familiar *sigh*
