Drinking in a dream?

I guess my subconscious has been thinking about recovery. Last night, out of left-field, I had a nightmare dream in which I drank hard liquor, fell into a pool, and was being hunted by work-supervisors.

My last drink was Aug. 9. I'm fairly new to recovery.

Ever have "drinking" dreams after you quit? Is this part of the recovery process?

Yup. They are weird and frustrating, but isn't it great to wake up and realize you didn't have a relapse? I've seen a lot of threads on here about dreams, so I think it is pretty common.

Yeah I just had one the other night, woke up and really had to think whether or not I had been drinking. I was frightened that I had, what a great feeling to realize it was a dream.
I have always been a pretty vivid dreamer, not so my wife. I have regularly woken up and talked to my wife about the night's dream(s) , she thinks it's odd to have so many and remember most. Anybody else , a vivid or remembering dreamer ?

Sure, I think most recovered alcoholics have these dreams. I'm a vegetarian, and also have dreams where I'm eating big, bloody steaks. Weird, but it's a relief to wake up and see its not true!

I still wake up some mornings with that dread '**** what did i say or do' but I'm never so glad as the moment I remember I stayed sober and I stayed in control

Yes and yes.

It's perfectly normal. During sleep, your mind processes what went on while you were awake. It's normal for dreams like these to occur.

A few nights ago I dreamt that I had gotten drunk and in the dream I was quite upset about it. When I woke up and realized it was just a dream, I felt very relieved.

So yeah, this is perfectly normal.

Hi, George. I remember having at least one drinking dream early in my recovery. When I woke up I felt so ashamed...until I realized it was only a dream. Whew! Yes, completely normal.

Yes. The first one was horrible. I had gotten drunk and I was running around town trying to decide whether to call my sponsor or get drunk again. I was overwhelmed with guilt and my mind was all over the place. It was damn scary.

The second was not so bad. I had the alcohol but I had not drank it yet. A good friend I met in AA talked me down off the ledge. Still scary.

I had them in the first few months after I quit drinking, then the dreams stopped. Then out of the blue I had one a couple weeks ago...very vivid and realistic. So yeah, I think it's normal. Don't read much into it; think of all the crazy dreams we all have.

I have been sober over 10years,in early recovery I had lots of drinking dreams.

These days I have them rarely, but they are always when I am disturbed about something.

I didn't have one until last week but it was so realistic... even after I realized I hadn't consumed any alcohol I still felt uneasy. I was happy I didn't drink but the feelings were so strong in the dream I couldn't turn them off once I was fully conscious.
