day 37!!! finally
Hi all im sober 37 days! I havent started any meetings, i think i need to. Although my body feels good, my brain is a wreck. Im being stricken w incredible shame and quilt for the way ive lived this long. The people ive let down and the bridges ive burned are overwhelming my mind. Any advice?????
Try to stay in the present moment and do the next right thing. The more you do that, the more distance you have from those things that are causing you guilt. You cannot change the past. Many happy sober people felt like you do now. It took time and sobriety to move on from that.

I felt exadctly the same way.
the answer for me was AA.
The steps helped dispel ALL those feelings FOR ME.
For once in my life i was honest and dug deep.
Even more than the counsellors i was going to
please give it a try and after step 12 decide if it is for you or not

AA has an answer for those things. In my case I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I could not live with the skeletons in the closet, the secrets, the awful memories. To try and sweep them under the carpet somehow, well I tried that and it almost killed me. Why do you think alcoholics have such a high suicide rate?
A life without shame or guilt, a life where you can look the world in the eye and be perfectly comfortable in your own skin, a life with a fair measure of joy and happiness, that is just some of what you will miss out on if you hang on to that stuff.

Welcome to SR! Congrats to you on 37 days!!!
Regarding the past, I think it's best to make peace with it, forgive yourself and move forward. The past can never be changed and beating yourself up over it will never fix anything. It also keeps you from focusing on the present, which is where your energy needs to be. That's clearly easier said than done, but please keep reminding yourself that the present is what counts now.
Glad you here, and remember to be kind to yourself.
