Quick tip

In case you didn't know, whenever you smile, your brain releases substances that make you feel good.

The interesting part is, when you smile deliberately, you get the same release and good feelings.

So as often as you can, smile. It feels good.

When I used to train volunteers to do something quite stressful I used to tell them to smile and pretend that they were competent at doing the task - the endorphins released would empower them and have them believe they could carry out the task (which they could but their thinking would have them believe otherwise). Once they did this often enough they were able to believe that they were capable and competent.

It's good technique to employ and it costs nothing.

Dancing is also good - and again, belief you can can do it ensures that you can.

I love it! I will remember to smile more often.

Have you ever listened to the lyrics in "Smile" by Nat King Cole?

"Smile"
Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

[instrumental interlude]

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

A teacher once told me that to smile requires fewer muscles than to frown. He'd say, "Smile! It's cheaper!"
