I need help moving on with my life. I fixate on my past and all of the mistakes i have made. I have been vary depress for some time now, it gets so bad that makes my day to day hard to be social and happy.

Hi New! Well you can't change the past but today is a brand new day! Guilt is a pretty useless emotion,but if it's real remorse then you are gonna do things to change your future. If you are serious about your recovery God will use that past to help others. I promise! He works like that!

What you do today will make all the difference in your tomorrows. God Bless! And you will create a new past, A past you are proud of.

Hi Newstar

I was like that - I really needed to accept that, as much as I wanted to, I couldn't change the past.

What I could was focus on today - I could do things right and maybe help others and in that way make a kind of living amends for my past.

The more I did that, the less my past haunted me - I'll never forget it, but I'm not burdened down by it now either

You're in the right place @ the right time...Learn how to ask God for forgiveness(& once u ask Him to do so, don't keep asking coz He heard u the 1st time) then 4give yourself & go on. It took me a long time to get this down coz u're no good to anyone & even u'reself if u stay in the condition u're in.
Sobriety is fun!! You make new friends & enjoy life as never before & on top of that, u rem what u did the day b4...imagine that(lol)

There’s no way that we can be proactive if we remain stuck in the past. And the past is what fuels the guilt and shame that we currently feel.
We feel this way because of the burden of guilt and shame that we wrestle with every day.

I know it sounds cliche but until we can learn how to overcome the self-destructive emotions, I dont think it is possible for us to move forward in recovery.

I know I know easier said than done, I too still struggle with this very often! Its not an easy thing!
