New Job!
New Job!
I got a job w/ the USPS, as the letter when to report to orientation arrived yesterday. I admit filling out the application I was a little nervous as it asked if I had ever been arrested. I had a DUI back in 1987, and I just hate having to put that down, but since they asked had I EVER been arrested, I had to put it on there.
However, when I was interviewed the Postmaster said to me, "oh, that is the year I graduated high school, that is off your record now." Then she smiled and she drew a line thru it and wrote next to it "off record."
They did fingerprint me and ran a check and I was hired, and start next Wednesday!
I have the program of the AA fellowship to thank for this new chapter of my life. Also the Big Book which gives me instructions how to live, my loving sponsor and my friends, not to mention all of you at SR!
Blessings, Lily

Thanks so much sugarbear! It is really hard to get a job. I was turned down sooooo many times. I had recently told my husband that I just wanted to give up trying. I really only need part-time to help out and cover some bills, but after getting shot down soooo many times....ugh! One lady even told me that I was at the top of her list each time I went in her store, but she never hired me and never called me, so I gave up. I resigned myself to doing home daycare the rest of my life, till this came up. I hope you can find just the perfect fit! Don't give up like I almost did. I got to resign from my daycare kids who were going to start back up soon! Yipee! (Don't get me wrong, I love kids, just really in need of some adult conversation)
That is great news Lily, I am sure the woman that interviewed you was impressed by your honesty. I probably wouldn't have been that honest, never had a DUI, not for want of trying I might add.
Good luck Sugarbear with the job search.

Awesomeness! You were just waiting for the RIGHT job.
I retired in December 2011, and had applied for what looked like the PERFECT job for me. I was feeling so good about my qualifications, and the interview... then nothing. I had to ask whether they had made a decision--and of course, I was a little peeved that they had not had the courtesy to tell me they hired someone else.
The week I retired, I got a notice from an email list I was on, announcing a very similar job with a different agency. I think I applied for it five minutes after I got the announcement (I had already updated the resume, had writing samples ready to go, list of references...).
Heard nothing, forgot all about it. Started working on maybe starting a home-based business or something (not a great idea for someone who doesn't want to be an entrepreneur). Out of the blue, months later, I get a call, two phone interviews and an in-person interview, and I was hired. And it was SO much more perfect than the one I didn't get.
Still loving the job almost a year later, and man, getting debt paid off is a beautiful thing.
Congrats, and hope it works out great for you!
