Smile New to recovery as well as internet forums...

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to recovery, with a little over 65 days in AA. I've got a sponsor and am so far finding it to be very positive. I really like the program, and I'm curious about people's experiences and opinions on it, beyond what I hear at meetings.

At this point I have a lot of questions, so I often find myself wishing meetings were more back & forth/discussion-oriented...but things aren't set up that way obviously. Hence the reason I'm here. I've never really read/commented much on forums but I thought I would try it out to see if there are any interesting topics/debates going on.

Anyway, interested to see what's here!

Hi ocloudsaboveme,

I've been to AA meetings with varying approaches, but never one with back and forth discussion. There's plenty of time to do that with fellow attendees before and after the meeting, though. At least the ones that I've been to.

At a number of meetings I've been to, a phone list is passed around, so you can call people up and have your back and forth on the phone.

And, of course, if you want back and forth - here is the place to get lots of it. There's very little you can say that will shock us, and rarely have I seen someone get shot to the ground for having an opinion.

Welcome to SR and congratulations on your sobriety!!

I've been to AA and around here they have a "no crosstalk" rule. Basically I think people are supposed to comment on their experience, strength and hope and not have those back and forth conversations. As Renaldo said above that is what the beofre and after meeting before and phone calls etc.

You are in a great place though to have those conversations and there are alot of people here who have sober time and the wisdom that comes with it. Welcome!!
