Can't believe I drank so much, can believe I could end up doing it again...

Hallo All,

I am on day five without booze.

Up to six days ago I was drinking upwards of 7 pints of 5% lager most days. And have been doing for 20 years. Last few years it had been getting worse, I would down the first beer, and then average three to four an hour. It would take at least ten to get me a bit hammered.

I never drink at home. There is no alcohol in my house. My wife doesn't drink. I love going to the pub, sometimes on my own to have a pint and read a magazine. With me, the 'reward' sub-concious is very strong.

I don't drink spirits or wine, only beer and I don't smoke. Narcotics have no appeal to me. But I do have an addictive personality so maybe it wouldn't take much to get me hooked on either.

So I could be pretty tame compared to the battles some people are facing on this forum. But I know I am on a slippery slope that has got steeper. Functioning alcoholic? Absolutely, but only on the surface. Alcoholics always get found out eventually.

Your stories on this forum are inspiring. I am really glad I have found this place.

C.

welcome, I drank pretty much the same for about 10 years... every night. but I was the drink alone type of alcoholic. I started to suffer serious symptoms in my brain... dizziness vertigo dementia and knew it was time to give sobriety a try. my life sure does feel much better without it.
best wishes

Think how much money you're going to save, as well as getting your life back.

7-10 pints is alot of alcohol per night 10 pints of 5% beer is 20 units thats 140 units a week... the safe recommended limit is 21 units for a man and 16 for a feamle in the uk so you are drinking 7 weeks worth of units in 1 week..this level of drinking will get the better of you sooner or later.

iam not trying to scare you but alcoholics are so quick to say my consumption is not that bad look at his.

welcome and good luck.
