10 reasons I'm glad to be sober...

Sober nearly 7 days and here are the top 10 reasons I keep reminding myself I made the right choice:

10) No more hangovers
9) No more 3-day binges followed by insomnia, loss of appetite, massive headache, and withdrawal
8) No more blackouts
7) No more offensive behavior while drunk
6) No more smoking (only smoked when I drank)
5) No more losing my cell phone, my jacket, my credit card, etc while drunk
4) No more calling in sick to work because I'm still drunk/hungover
3) No more 50 dollar cab rides because I passed out in the back seat and the driver just kept on driving
2) No more laying on the couch all day instead of playing with my kids because I'm too hungover to play with them
1) No more fighting with my wife, my family, or my friends because of something related to being drunk

Those 10 valid reasons to give up drinking were literally off the top of my head. I'm sure there are at least 20-30 more where those came from. Very therapeutic to put these things down in writing as motivation to keep it together and stay on the sober train!

Readyatlast - that could have been me typing that :-(

Bit about kids really struck home , get them in bed fast so I can start the wine and when they were about I just led on sofa nursing a hangover and been grizzly

:-(..what a dick I was

The last 3 weeks have been heaven - playing with them ,swinging out of trees at the weekend - I was so lost I didn't even really know them ..

Never ever again

No more furry tounge,
No more sucking on mints to try and cover the alkie breath ,
No more night sweats,
No more wondering if i'm over the drink drive limit the morning after the night before,
No more shakey hands,
No more blood pressure at 180/120,
No more feeling embarrased at the suprmarket checkout,
No more buying red and white wine to try and covince strangers who don't care that i'm holding a party and not drinking it all myself ..

So many more .....

Mecanix...it was the high blood pressure that forced me to quit last week. I had similar readings at the Dr's, had to wear a bp cuff for 24hrs, go to the cardiologist, etc all in the course of a couple weeks. I'm only 35 and too young and otherwise healthy to have this kind of crap going on. Despite all of the reasons mentioned above, it came down to booze or health in the end for me. Seems like an easy choice for most rational people but tough to say goodbye to my love affair with the drink so abruptly nonetheless. Tomorrow will be 7 days and office Xmas party. Wish me luck!

This so hit home with me. Sometimes I would even tell the cashiers about the fake party they did not care about. How ridiculous was I!!!!!

SoberMarathon ,
I'm 38 and had b/p like that .. still i carried on drinking .. thats how sick i was . 470 days on into sobriety and it's changed my life .
7 days , 7 weeks , 7 months it's amazing how much better i felt at each of them , if you're anything like i was stick with it as it is worth it,

I use the old "I'm dosed up on lemsip as i've got a cold coming on, a drink would kill me " if people start asking if i want a drink at a party .. it makes them scoot if you blow your nose in their direction as well .. he he he !

Bestwishes, M
