Hi.
I'm 25, male living in Dublin, Ireland.
I've written a long, multi-paragraph intro to this twice now and deleted them both. Bottom line is, while not being an alcoholic in the typical sense, once I start I can't stop until blackout mode, which is happening more and more often. It can only end up one way.
Anything bad in my life currently is because of alcohol. Any girl mad enough to put up with me has been scared off by my drunken ways. I've embarrassed myself countless times while blacked out and have even stolen from my family while drunk in order to keep drinking. Recently I've done a decent amount of a number of different Class A drugs while drunk and didn't even know until someone told me.
My two older brothers are both alcoholics. One got so bad that his health was in danger and hasn't drank in 4 years and is doing great. The other unfortunately is still drinking.
Anyway, I've decided to stop before I'm forced to stop. I like making my own decisions, something I can't do when I'm hammered.

Welcome EireLad -
It's great that you've decided to get sober! I spent years thinking "Maybe next time I can control it" and waking up wondering what happened..... It only gets worse, so good for you for taking action now. Glad you're here!

Welcome! That first post and step is important...glad you found us.
The beginning is really hard....but we understand. If I were you Id take some courage in your brother who stopped drinking. You can do it too.

Hey EireLad- congrats on getting sober, and congrats on being 25 years old.
I have the same relationship with alcohol as you, unstoppable blackouts, it took me 15 years and a lot of unintended blackouts to realize I really, really could never hope to control it.
Wish you the best.

EireLad,
Great first post! Keep reading, posting and asking questions. Ask the brother that stopped for guidance (if you feel you can), 4 years in he should be a great resource.
As I have said in many other post, I wish I would have stopped at 25, would have saved alot of lost years and embarrasment.
Good Luck and welcome,
Toss
