Day 6 no Booze
Hi all, this is my first post.Im on day 6 now.I decided on the 30th october that i had to stop or i would kill myself. The last 6 months ive been drinking before going to work.Going for a walk at work at 12.00pm and having 3-4 quick drinks before going back to the desk.It was getting worse and worse..And last Monday the 29th i had 3 rum and cokes before 9.00am..I dont even like Rum!.I thought thats it..I havent found it too hard yet as im feeling so much better in the head.Yesterday on day 5 i was very depressed though but i keep thinking in my head its Alcohol withdrawal symptoms so keep going.
I gave up for 45 days this year and thought i could go back to drinking occasionally. But now looking back on it as soon as i have my first i want more and more. And the first thing i think about when i wake up is having another drink. So iev decided i cant go back and that's it..Im going to keep going and i love reading all the posts on here. They really help.Heres to day 6 and everyone whos trying to do the same..Cheers

Welcome bugleboy!
Congratulations on deciding to get sober and on your 6 days - great start! It can be a bit bumpy at first (like those bad days popping up on you), but it gets better (and easier) as you go.
Be patient with yourself and keep reading/posting!

BugleBoy, welcome aboard. Glad you found SR! Most of us are with you on the can't do the moderation plan. You may find it easier to stop entirely than to try to control it. You have a good start, keep moving forward
Hi BugleBoy & welcome. Congrats on day 6.
My AV also told me I could do moderation. Sneaky deceitful voice!!
Rather that moderating, which involved counting, planning, resentment at drinking and not getting the buzz, I now findit much simpler to have none. It's less brain work! I feel at peace and I'm only on day 9

Bugleboy. Well done on all you have achieved so far. Feel free to brag about your successes in tackling the drinking problem here! Even if you don't defeat it entirely in the first few weeks, tell us how you're doing - the good and the bad.
Welcome to SR
Not being able to stop at one is a problem many of us (myself included) have, and like you it's my major reason for knowing I can never go back to drinking alcohol. SR also serves as a great reminder for that.
I'm glad you're enjoying sobriety. Keep going - it just gets better and better.
Wishing you all the best.
