So, I told him...

I told my father about the information on health insurance I found:

Me: As long as you have had continuous coverage, getting a new insurance shouldn't be all that difficult. The trick is to never let it lapse.

Him: Not true. When Mom dumps me from her policy I have to get a totally separate one under my name. They won't give it to me because of pre-existing conditions. Mom won't even sit down and talk to me. I could be on my death bed and she will refuse to talk to me. She really hates me. No one realizes how serious this is!!! I looked on the Internet, it didn't sound so bad, but my doctor is telling me all kinds if scary stuff!!

Yes, he will have to have a policy under his own name.
No, he will not be denied insurance for pre-existing conditions as long as he has had continuous coverage.

I told him that. He says:

I can't get her same policy, it's a special state plan. Why won't Mom talk to me. I need to talk to her about this disease. This is serious!

I'm starting to smell the BS though.

We can't always get what we want. In any case, it isn't your problem.

"Mom has a group insurance plan that is inexpensive. If I find insurance it will be at least $2,000 a month for a plan half as good as the one I'm on now! I'm really screwed."

Aaah. So it's not about not being able to. It's about it being expensive. And about him wanting to talk to her.

Well, $2,000 a month is like borderline not being able to get insurance. That's a lot of money and he has is own business, employment wise.
