alcoholism and sociopathic behavior

Are we all sociopaths when we are drinking? Is this a common trait among alcoholics/addicts?

Its been a week or so since ive logged on. I slipped up. About to detox again. Why do I keep doing this?

It is common. Yes. And you do it because you're addicted. But you can fight it, friend!!! Come to September class, vent, cry. We hear. We love. We support.

Common amongst alcoholics but not non-alcoholics! And from this book I am reading I am seeing the difference.

I found this website: Profile of the Sociopath

How many of you can relate to a good majority of those symptoms? I can. But thats not me. I have love in my heart. A friend of mine said if I don't get help I could end up being completely emotionless towards other people. Its like the disease consumes you and you start becoming so self absorbed that you start eating yourself alive. This is some powerful stuff. I'm coming back to SR. help please.

Under the Influence it's called

It's brilliant! I no longer feel like a weak willed loser and am only into the third chapter.

I downloaded it as an ebook. But you can buy it from Amazon.

I can relate to a good few things but I don't do those things on purpose.

Sociopathy isn't a disease though - it's the alcoholism that is the disease and behaviour whilst under the influence that can bring sociopahic tendencies out?

Sociopaths and psychopaths enjoy causing pain and hurting people.

Well, we share some of the same behavior as sociopaths when we're drinking.... but we probably could say that about the symptoms of an anxiety disorder, major depression, or whatever. But yeah.... it makes us pretty dysfunctional in one way or another.

Why do I keep doing this?
I asked myself the same question a million times. I think I was looking for a way to understand it so that I control it (and maybe not have to give it up altogether, I don't know)? At some point I guess I just accepted I wasn't going to figure it out completely and after I got sober it didn't really matter.

I think we bandy words around a lot.

Like artsoul said, exhibiting dysfunctional behaviours when drinking doesn't necessarily make us sociopaths.
