Day 3
Today is day 3 and I feel awesome. Went to yoga and the gym today, now off to dinner with my girlfriends. They will be drinking wine, I am bringing gingerale. Can't stop loving my friends and living my life but cannot drink. I'll keep you posted!

great to hear that you are feeling well after 3 days.
no need to give up on life/fun/friends, if you can be strong enough to give up on alcohol. it's perfectly fine to go out and have fun without drinking. just be cautious of having false sense of security, if you've decided to quit there is no happy middle. quit for good.

Absolutely don't give up life or having fun...but I'd play it smart too Sunshine.
Don't underestimate your addiction, your AV, or whatever you want to call it.
In my experience, this is a marathon not a sprint.
I couldn't have been around folks drinking on day 3...would you be open to suggesting other things to do to your friends that don't involve alcohol in future?

Gee I was still de toxing on my third day....could not leave my place.
It was the hardest day for me ..socializing was not indicated
I hope it works out for you Sunshine and your sobriety continues..

I am with Carol , day three I still had not fallen asleep once, but I was able to drink gatorade watered down.
So glad your doing so well, and like it was said be awful careful. Its so easy to forget why you quit and that voice can say you are okay.

I actually found it helpful to be around people during my first week. To be fair, I was fortunate to not have severe withdrawal symptoms. I did have a temptation yesterday when I was sitting with my next door neighbor. I have been there many times, but this was my first visit to his garage since I quit. He was drinking his beer as usual. It was only later that I would think to myself, "Whoa, that was too soon."
Everyone's recovery is so different. I agree with those who urge caution, but you can certainly still have some fun along the way.

Thanks everyone!
Well I went and it was great! Like someone else had mentioned, I too fortunately did not have any withdraw symptoms. When I was there I had a quick thought of wanting the wine that they were having but then remembered that I had the control. After this, everything went smoothly. Someone had mentioned asking them to do things that don't involve alcohol. I have told all of my close friends about what I am doing and they are supportive. They all are willing to try new and different things with me. However, this weekend we have a birthday and a friend moving away. The plan, even before I made this decision, was to go out for both events. So for this instance, I can't change their plans. However, my boyfriend decided to get sober with me and we will be each others supports this weekend. I have hope! Another yoga class today, dinner and movie tonight with my bf. No bars for once and no spending a million dollars for nights we can't remember!
I hope you stay stopped tonight! Day 3 is tricky enough and after your last post, I think you are playing with fire. I'm sure you will get through this without drinking, though. I'm feeling you are committed to staying stopped this time. Some of us just can't drink, it leads to great problems for us.
Stay strong, stay committed and stopped and come back and let us know how it went! I also hope you find a program of recovery to work!
Love & hugs,
