First sober concert

Went to see Sting in concert last night with some friends (who are drinkers). I was pretty nervous and worried as concert was held in a casino so there was extra drinking all around. I think it was slightly easier as my 18 yr old son (the one who has brain cancer) was with us. Sting had paid him a visit during one of his many hospital stays so it was particularly meaningful for him to see him live in concert. I was able to concentrate more on my son and tried to really enjoy myself and not think about the alcohol. There were hard moments but all in all it went well and I had a good time. Progress.

Well done man. It definitely gets easier as time goes by. I am a frequent concert goer myself. I must say though, that every now and I don't let myself go to a show because I am having cravings, and I don't want to risk it.

I remember I was 6 months sober when I went to see The Dead at Red Rocks, CO ampitheater. How can a newly sober person NOT think about drinking/drugging at one of those shows! While I wouldn't prescribe anyone to try this newly sober, I knew my brother went out of his way to get the concert tickets and he didn't realize I got sober until he offered me a couple "things" and I respectfully declined. I ended up sitting next to two people with long term recovery, everyone had a ball and the show rocked, even sober!
