Day Two - Taken first step towards living alcohol free
Day Two - Taken first step towards living alcohol free
Now hangover free. Still feel like crap from a weekend of boozing and eating crap food, but the hangover is over and feeling clearer-minded. I caught myself momentarily questioning whether I need to quit alcohol for good - hang over is over now, doesn't seem so bad from this place - lots of people drink this way and have this lifestyle and they don't think they need to quit...blah blah blah.
But then I thought - I am not them. I am me and I need to quit. So I got up, did two hours of marking some of the essays I should have been doing yesterday (I am a teacher- which I find really embarrassed about admitting because I should be a rolemodel for my students...) and then I took the first real step that really tells me I am serious about this...I chucked my spirits down the sink.
All the alcohol I had in my cupboard went down the plughole.
It's over. Now I just have to stick to it.

Oh Kelly, I have done that millions of times on my own. Thrown everytihing down the sink, thought it was a milestone. No it is'nt.
It is what goes on in the old brain what is the trigger!
You either want to do it or you don't .
Be strong, say that it's not for you, sod the little devil off your shoulder and tell it to go elsewhere.
Take Care.

Now that's a statement.
Keep on here first few days need support .
Just to know its going in the right direction.
Your doing the right thing .
Keep on keep on giving up .All I can say is I wish I could have done it when I was your age.
Good luck.
John.

I suggest going to some AA meetings, Kelly. Lots of great people and excellent stories. Remember, it is anonomyous. What is heard, who is seen, does not pass beyond those walls. Pouring out that booze is a good first step but a first step is meaningless unless it is followed by subsequent steps in the right direction. Keep moving forward because if you don't you will surely fall back. Sorry if i sound like a downer, i just want you to really jump start your recovery. You're worth every effort!
Yes I will consider doing the AA thing...could be good. I contacted a local agency that offers free counselling to those wishing to quit alcohol so may start with that and see what the counsellor says.
