First time, first day
I started drinking back in 01' and I have seen maybe 3 dry days even when sick or injured since then. I am posting here so I can be accountable to someone, someone to talk with. I have 16 sober hours...one hour at a time then one day at I time I guess.
Nice forum ya'll have here.

Hey Bob, good luck. I just found this place and have to do something. I can hardly type cause my hands are just shaking so bad. I'm going to try weaning my self off, but deep down, I know it won't work..... Have to get through a wedding dinner and wedding this weekend... I don't know whats going to happen. I wonder if I quit today, would the shakes be gone by then?? I drink way to much scotch every night......

Welcome and keep checking in here. There's always someone around here who is listening and willing to help. This forum got me through the first few days and I continue to come here everyday just to listen, learn and share. Good luck to you and stay strong. You can do this!

Welcome! I once heard that a craving only lasts 10-15 mins (or something like that) so I try really hard to ride the craving out remembering that it WILL pass. I try to find something to do to distract myself, get on this forum, call a sober friend, get to a meeting, go for a walk. ANYTHING to keep me from picking up. There's also a lot of sugar in alcohol so I kept a big supply of chocolate on hand in the first week or so! SR is a great place there is so much support and wisdom here! Hope some others will be along soon with some advice on how to handle cravings for you!
H.A.L.T. Hungry , Angry, Lonely, Tired Keep all these needs taken care of and the
cravings are much easier to deal with. I did not make it up but has been used in
recovery circles for years and it works for me. Keeping it simple is huge.
Do you have 24 hrs sober time yet?

I don't know anyone controls cravings Bob - you learn to deal with them tho.

I'm new here too Bob, and my cravings have finally passed!! The first few days were really bad, I was shocked how hard out the cravings were. But after a couple of days I started identifying the waves of craves as just cravings that will pass, then after that thought 20mins would pass and I would realise that I hadn't thought about drinking for 20mins and that the craving had gone! Gradually the gap got wider and now that I'm past the cravings I wouldn't risk going through it all again by just having one drink.
Best of luck to you, stay strong through the next few days
