There has to be something else I can try.
A little bit about myself. I have been abusing alcohol for close to 14yrs. There is no rationalising it because at this point i cant take the 3 days of hell i endure every week from binge drinking on weekends. About a year ago went for counseling, attended AA meetings (eventually left), tried anti-anxiety and depression pills to deal with my mental health issues which my doctor recommended as a way to start recovery. Eventually ended up stopping the meds because the sexual side effects were too hard to bear.
Long story short, I live in Des Moines maybe getting a sponsor might work for the days that you feel you just want one.
Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

Not exactly going to any lengths...Do you know what a sponsor is for?...Taking you through the program of recovery...The 12 steps. If you want this to work....I would hope the days you just want one would be everyday. Good luck.
Welcome mujolibo
It's not immediately clear to me whether you're looking for an alternative to AA or a kind of sponsor, but our Secular Connections forum has a range of reading and links on alternatives to 12 step recovery

Being prepared to stop drinking and take whatever comes on an unconditional basis is an important step. It took me many years to get to the point where I was ready to do that.
I don't go to AA but the Big Book really helped me to understand the strength that comes from surrender.
