My plan for coping with the holidays
My plan for coping with the holidays
It's only been a couple months since my AH relapsed, and just drove away one day, choosing drink over everything we had including US. So overwhelming! This forum, and Al Anon have been great helps, but it has been excruciating. So very difficult to comprehend it. Just the thought of the holidays now makes me even sadder....I've just hated it.
Yesterday I had an inspiration. I filled out a volunteer application to work with our city's Rescue Mission, which helps men women and children with addiction, homelessness and abuse. I'm going to spend as much time as possible there, doing whatever is needed. Once I had the idea, my spirits lifted and I thought "This is EXACTLY what I need to spend my holidays doing"
I feel better. I think when we choose to serve, it is us that receives the most benefit, and now I'm really looking forward to the holidays.

Well done! Not only do these agencies rely on volunteers, especially during the holidays, but giving to others is a great soul healer!
"Change your attitude, change your experience". I love that! You are inspiring!
