Went to a bar
I went out last night to listen to a band. I couldn't take it anymore. It hadn't been out in 4 months. I was worried I would never be able to do it again. I didn't want to drink. I wasn't craving. I wasn't uncomfortable. The smell of alcohol didn't bother me. I had a lot of fun. I had two diet cokes and I was fine. I don't generally drink sodas but I figured it would be better than my normal water with lemon. The band was great. The crowd was having a great time dancing. Most of the patrons were in my age range so there was less power drinking and drama. I feel so good today. It was a mile stone for me. I can go out and have a great time doing what I love without alcohol. Today my friend is taking me for a motorcycle ride. It's going to be a good day.
It is amazing what we are able to overcome. If it never got better what would be the point right? I know the newbies will gather so much inspiration through this thread. Everytime I read something like this it gave me hope. I truly believed that living without alcohol was possible. I'm glad you had this experience. That you can enjoy the same things you always have but without alcohol. So worth it!
This reminds me of a quote from the BB that I really like when I'm feeling weird about going places that I normally would go to drink.
"So our rule is not to avoid a place where there is drinking, if we have a legitimate reason for being there"
You had a legitimate reason for being there. It's not like you were just going to the bar to hang out/be miserable sitting there...you went out to see a band and have fun which it sounds like you did! I've been in a lot of these situations recently, shows, friends birthday parties, weddings, baseball games....and you just have to remind yourself why you are there.
Good for you!

Sounds like you had a fun night. I was worried at first too going to shows and not drinking since in the past I was always wasted but now I find that I actually enjoy the bands more bc I actually remember them the next morning!
This is great news! I didn't want to have to give up everything I enjoyed just because I stopped drinking - so I did the same thing. I realize we're all different, but I've never been tempted to give up my hard earned sobriety.
