My Strange Behaviour . Got me baffled
My Strange Behaviour . Got me baffled
Hello Friends.
yes a good day at work. Happy to knock off.
I left the office and before I knew it , without a thought , I was pulled up in the bottle shop undercover driveway .
It is something that I did every day for years and years.
I shook my head when I realised where I was and , exited stage left.
It was like I was on auto pilot.
Not thinking .
Im not angry or disappointed.
Im just surprised at the ingrained behaviour.
Alcoholism is automatic to me , the drinking is like breathing .
Just something I do .
Well, not anymore.
Hope everyone is well.

I totally understand I walk past a bottle shop every day and sometimes I almost go on auto pilot as well, ingrained indeed. Glad you didnt though!
It helps that I stood at the door and talked to the owner about two months into quitting and said Hi (he is rather handsome) and asked him if he had an overflow of Merlot now that I had stopped drinking :-) he said yes! and asked if I had stopped i said yes it did not agree with me, I often think wouldnt it be funny if a recovering alcoholic dated a bottle shop owner! well at least his profits would not be drunk away!

That's funny, I find myself doing the same thing when I walk past my (several) liquor stores, that I just feel like I am being pulled by a force field that is beyond my control, it's just automatic to walk into them. I've decided to walk a different route--I'm in NYC, so easy, so I don't go on automatic pilot and "accidentally" give in. So many habits and ingrained behavior that we have to change, gah!
But very impressed you just pulled out and kept going. Talk about resolve, gives me strength.

Many times when I was still drinking I found myself on auto pilot - walking down the road, buying beer, walking home again - only when I knocked the top of the bottle did I 'come to'
It was fairly common for me back in the day.
I've not found myself in any bottle shops since I quit tho.
