I have a sponsor! happy happy joy joy
So, I met this woman at a meeting Friday night. It was weird-I felt an instant connection to her. Yknow how you can tell right away, that someone is sympatico?
We talked a bit before the meeting started, and I thought, yknow, I've been to quite a few meetings now, and not yet met anyone I could foresee as my sponsor. I figured I'd ask her--not to commit to sponsoring me right away--but if she'd meet with me for coffee so we could get to know each other and see how things go.
She said ok, gave me her number, and we made plans to meet today.
Well, it went better than I could've hoped. Without knowing, I picked someone who has so much in common with me...we are both from the south. We both lost a parent to lung cancer (I my mom, she lost her dad.) We have similar spiritual beliefs..it was amazing how much we had in common.
She's been in the program 6 years and already had 2 sponsees.
Anyway, we talked for 2.5 hrs, during which she agreed to sponsor me! We're going to meet weekly and work through the Steps as written in the Paths to Recovery.
I can't tell you all what a relief it is to have someone I can turn to and help with my program!
Thanks for listening!
