i have it. a few things that help me get to sleep
1. stretching
2. calf raises until it burns and i can't do any more
3. then once i'm lying in bed i will raise my legs up in the air as i lie on my back. i will procede to leave my legs in the air for about 30 seconds or until it burns so bad i have to let them down again.

the combination of these things will usually give my legs a pleasant tired feeling and let my rls go away at least temporarily so i can fall asleep. if i wake up, i will repeat the process.

thank you soap.
i will try that.
i also do squats untill i blow my thighs out and that helps /or i get up and have a cup of tea and that helps also.
but it is a nuisance....big time.
i also drink tonic water cos the quinine is supposed to help??
i just wondered if there was a permanent fix?

And now for something really crazy....

Put a bar of soap under the covers/sheets at the foot of your bed... Seriously. Also Rite Aid makes a Restless Leg formula pill that dissolves on your tongue and works well...

I am married to a RLS sufferer and these things work for her... It used to be so bad I'd practically get kicked out of bed... I'll take snoring anyday... LOL

Hi ulverston... you don't say how long you have stopped drinking. I, too, had restless leg syndrome... but not while I was drinking and not after I quit drinking. This was quite a few years ago when I didn't drink for years. What I did was go to the doctor and they did blood work to determine which minerals and vitamins I was lacking. For me, it was magnesium. It could be caused by a variety of things, but if it is driving you nuts, and it would, I would go to the doctor. It could be something that is easy to fix.

I have had it for years too.

For me some things work some times, but nothing works all the time. I have to get up and walk around and try to distract myself from thinking about my legs. I do find that B vitamin helps, but you should check wityh your dr about that.

I get it when I have an iron deficiency. Since sobering up, my diet is healthier and I don't have it nearly as much.

hey everyone quit 10 days ago, RLS was one of my reasons alcohol took off so much. I medicated with it. if i could pass out i wouldnt have it.

For the past two nites it has comes back. I am exhausted today but only because of that and not because i was drinking all night. I have committed to myself that this is it and restless legs wont make me drink again. I would rather be tired because of that.

When it intitially started and i wasnt drinking i did put the bar of soap (and it has to be IVORY) under my sheets right at my calf level and lo and behold i think it did work.

i noticed last nite that the bar of soap had slid down to the foot of the bed so am gonna move it up tonite and see what happens.

we just have to rememeber that restless legs wont killl you, booze will.

Try yoga, seriously, it sounds stupid and new age, but I think it'll help relax you a lot more.
