Whoa what a wild Ride! Back I am Back!
Hello SR. OMG I haven't been on here in so long lol.
A little back story: I got sober in October of 2009. I stayed sober through AA for 9 months. Went out July 4th, 2010. The last time I have taken a drink was October 7th, 2010 (8 days sober now). Once again, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. Also, I had been having chest pains so I went to the doctor Oct. 8th and was told I have conduction delay aka first degree heart block caused by excessive cocaine and alcohol. Alcohol was my gateway drug so in order to completely rid my self of cocaine I know I have to completely rid myself of alcohol.
I was wondering if you guys can give me some ideas about alternatives to AA. It was great but a little hardcore. A meeting everyday, forced friendship and conversation just felt so weird to me. if all else fails I will return to AA though. I would really like to make sober friends, but without going to AA I don't know how I can do this...

welcome back - I'm sorry to hear of your health troubles.
Here's some links to the main recovery players LLG

I hope you find something to help you - once our health is compromised by addiction, I think we pretty much need to make quick definitive decisions and see them through...nothings really too hardcore is it?

Hi Dee 74! When you said when health is concerned... nothings too hardcore...I thought man, she aint never lied. Thank you so much for your expansive list. I've been chatting with a few of my old AA friends about how I need to get a plan in order because I know without a plan I won't stay sober and those resources will def help me get my plan.
Hi LLG..welcome back. Down in the secular forum there is a thread about some of the scientific reasons behind addiction. We find it helpful in our sobriety. Sorry I don't know how to post a link with my phone:-)

Go to AA dude. I'm pretty sure you go to work every day and have to engage in "forced friendships" and pretend to believe in things you might not completely believe in, but you do it because it leads to better things. AA's the same.
It can be really easy to forget that you're an addict if you don't associate with other, hopefully recovering, addicts.
Good luck
(I'm in same boat as you, just coming back)

Welcome back LLG. I am sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope that you continue to make the appropriate changes in order to live a happy and healthy life.
Keep coming back to SR. It is great for me to read about everyone experiences in recovery. It is a constant reminder of where I do not want to be ever again.

Welcome back LLG.....
Have you checked out NA? Or Cocaine Anonymous?
As alcohol is not your DOC
they might be a better fit.
I know people who do several programs at the same time.
Glad you are heading back to ahealthy future

So I was doing well until halloween. Binge drank and did coke again. This has got to stop. I just wanted to come back and post. I do not want to be one of those people who changes their sobriety date every week. But Jesus, thats what I am doing. **** it I just cracked out my AA **** and I am heading to a meeting tomorrow! I have 3 weeks until a new job starts so thatll give me time to focus on my recovery and health. Stay with me peoples
LLG - sounds like a good plan.
It's great that you have the time to focus on your sobriety before you start a new job. Time to read, sleep, think, write...
keep us posted - and join the Class of November thread..
