New Here
Thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a 43 year old alcoholic, living in a small town in Wiltshire in the UK. I've come to realise that unless I grip this addiction once and for all I will not live long enough to see my one year old son grow up. Already I sense that my enjoyment of him is diminished by a constant hangover.
That's the gloomy stuff over for now. On the plus side: as I type this I'm sober and sitting in my flat watching the most beautiful sunset.

I am new here myself. My last drink was 14 days ago. My last beer was 10 days ago. I had to drink beer (man I hate that stuff) for three days to get over the worst 4 day hangover.
I have been on the marry go round too many times. Sober for 4 or 5 months, then a 4 week period where I drink every thing in sight.
I am tired of it. I am ready to make sobriety part of my life.

Welcome to SR (((UltraRunner))) and (((DeeCelt))). Though it doesn't feel like it, at first, you're both giving yourselves a gift..the gift of sobriety, living life, and finding yourselves again. SR has been a huge part of my recovery, and I seriously doubt I'd have 3-1/2 years clean without the great people here.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

Glad you're here, ultrarunner - I finally looked down the road and saw where alcohol was taking me, and decided I didn't want to go there. I have children, too, and can't imagine what it would be like for them to see their mom going downhill day by day.
I also had to decide that I was worth it, too. We all are!! Welcome to the forum.

Welcome, Ultrarunner!
I am so glad that you have decided to live a sober life for yourself, and for your son.
And, it's great that you have enough perspective to enjoy the sunset!
