Welcome to SR, mylabelle.
You can post and hang here as much as you like or catch a meeting.
You can find a government run mental health facility and they should be able to give you free care. Take it easy.

HI mylabelle - Have you quit drinking? You can get help by going to a doctor or to the ER if you are desperate or going through withdrawals. They may be able to help provide you with some options. And like Bam said, there are facilities that are government subsidized and will work with you financially.
I spent the first couple days of sobriety posting and talking to everyone here at SR. I recommend it highly, as well as getting to an AA meeting. If you go to a meeting in your area, they may know quite a bit about the rehabs available. I can't tell you exactly what you need, because I'm not a doctor and don't know your history.
Also, do you have any family you can talk to?

The Salvation Army is the only one I know of that is free.
I don't believe there are any government run health services in the USA, free or otherwise, unless you are an armed services veteran. Bam if you can find one I'd like to know where. I looked. Hard. I know there are places that will work with you on your financial situation, just ask. I'd still vote for the Salvation Army though.

Hi mylabelle
Welcome to SR
I'm not an American but, as others have suggested, the Salvation Army is perhaps a good place to start
The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center: Rehabilitation Program
This other website lists US substance abuse treatment facilities - there's some information on cost - look at the listings in your local area and ring around
Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator
Good luck
