Newbie saying hello!
Hey everyone, I've been reading around the forum and decided it's time to get serious. I'm a guy who's been struggling with almost daily alcohol use for about the past 3 or 4 years, and have denied that I had any problems. It's been used as my way to self medicate anxiety, and it's gotten out of hand. I've made enough excuses. I was hoping it would be my new year's resolution to stop, but now it's the end of the month, and I'm still drinking. However, tomorrow's the start to a new month!
I'll be 26 in a couple months, and while it's difficult to hang out with some people my age without the booze being around, I know it can, and should be avoided. Any real friends will understand.
There! My first post!

Welcome aboard JayR, glad to see you here (:
When I was on one of my own times of sobriety, I really could hardly even think of anything to do, socially, that didn't involve drinking.
Googling "things to do sober" actually helps.
Good luck!

Hi and welcome! It is hard at first to find things to do that don't involve drinking. I've found that I still like to do mostly the same things, and enjoy them more now that I can always remember them and not have hangovers.

Thanks for the welcomes and advice It was suggested that I try taking melatonin at bedtime. I managed to sleep a few hours, just had some weird dreams. Otherwise, I feel pretty good. I went to the gym, finding it helps me wake up in the morning. The next real challenge will be after work, when I've sometimes justified stopping by the liquor store. I have to stay strong and avoid it no matter what.
Hey JayR welcome to SR! (LOL I am a poet and do not know it!)
I can tell you where to find a ton of people your age who do things with out drinking. I like you really wondered what I could do without being with folks that drank along with a lot of other fears of stopping. I found a ton of great new friends who not only were recovering alcoholics who knew how to stay sober, but were more then happy to share with me how they stay sober and support me in my sobriety. I found these folks in AA.
Why not check out some AA meetings? What do you have to lose? A drinking problem? What do you have to possibly gain? New sober freinds & sobriety.
