Battled so long on my own to no avail. I have a great job that I think may be in jeapordy. I make too much, new boss, and maybe the vibe I give off do to my substance abuse problem. I do carea and do am good at what I do.:wtf2Is there a best way to ask for help at work?
My paranoia says I'll go in and ask and they'll fire me and deny I said it....

By the way, I saw this elsewhere....It's me to a t....
When I was drinking I would try too hard, overcompensate for my insecurities and like you, almost always either say something inappropriate or too personal. And at the end of it, I would always be surprised that the next day I felt like noone liked me.

Hello IONG TIME and welcome to SR!
Sorry, I have no advice to offer you on seeking help at work, but I am sure that in no time others will join in and be able to contribute more.
But maybe work is not the only place to look for help. Is it possible where you are to also look into other option to find help, like alcohol counselling or a program like A.A.?
You can find a lot of support here, hang in there.

Hi lONG TIME
I'm an Australian so I can't offer too much work advice - maybe your organisation offers Employee Assistance Programs?
As an example, this is the Federal Governments EAP programme
OPM-EAP
I'd find out if you have one too

Yes, if your employer has an assistance program, that's the best route for you to go.
Otherwise, could you work something out with taking some vacation time and speaking to your dr about an inpatient program?

Most companies do have EAP, heck the military here in the US has EAP.
I would take a look at your employee handbook and your health insurance information.
If you work for even a medium sized company, I'm going to just about guarantee that you are not the only one who struggles/has struggled.
