two weeks...

its been a long time since i've gone two weeks without alcohol, but as of yesterday, i've officially been alcohol free for two weeks... go liver!! some days have been better than others, but i look forward to that day when i don't think about it every day. it was my habit to "treat" myself to a vodka/orange juice every saturday morning once my chores were finished. of course, this treat wasn't exclusive to saturdays sometimes. and monumental amounts of wine (i could go through a bottle of white in just a few hours) and any given point in time... who am i kidding... i drank atleast half a bottle of red and more every day.
thanks for being there, sr community.
the service given is priceless

Hi Ghostgirl,

I get my support here at SR, too, so I know what you mean. I've also never failed to be inspired when I come here, no matter how badly things are going in my life. So keep reading and posting.

And, yes, go liver, and all the rest of your body too. I find that each change in my life has a ripple effect. I now pay more attention (okay a BIT more attention) to the food eat, to the vitamins I take, to the water I drink and to exercising. It's definitely a process, but you have a great start! Good for you!

oh yes... there is a.a. here. i just meant among my friends and family. EVERYONE drinks, so i've "cacooned" myself away for a little while. and i don't mean just a bit of drink, either! there are plenty of a.a. meetings here where i live. i used a.a. the last time i got sober... i'm using the "smart" program and s.r. right now. i get "smart" pretty well, and the cognitive therapy has been really helpful. i am tremendously lucky to have the support on here that i do; i've not really let anyone in on how bad my drinking was becoming this time, and although i told everyone (friends family) that i intended to make 2010 a sober year, i still received mega amounts of alcohol as holiday gifts. poured any remainders down the drain... better to waste it than be wasted!!

Hi, I see what you are saying. It's difficult to talk to people who don't understand. There's people here all the time.

I hope you can given all that alcohol away, now you have given up.

oh, the alcohol is gone. i poured it down the drain. the bottle that wasn't open i gave to someone else. can't have the temptation just laying around. its easy enough with alcohol being sold everywhere; i don't need the added temptation of having it in my house!

Day 16, right there with ya.

Ghostgirl, Jan. 1 2010 was my Day One after a few sporadic attempts before the holidays, and this is the first cyber meeting space I have ever joined. I am also going to AA meetings and shunning invitations from people to hang out / drink... I think for me, after work is the hardest (miss my wine) and the weekends, and the hard part of not socializing while I get through this tough period. I know it is worth it. I am eating more than usual I have noticed, in kind of a "I deserve it!" mode, so I need to make sure I don't gain weight! Anyway congrats to you and I look forward to 30 days!
