Tao / Chapter Sixty-nine
Tao / Chapter Sixty-nine
There is a saying among soldiers:
I dare not make the first move but would rather play the guest;
I dare not advance an inch but would rather withdraw a foot.
This is called marching without appearing to move,
Rolling up your sleeves without showing your arm,
Capturing the enemy without attacking,
Being armed without weapons.
There is no greater catastrohpe than underestimating the enemy.
By underestimating the enemy, I almost lose what I value.
Therefore when the battle is joined
The underdog will win.
I dare not make the first move but would rather play the guest;
I dare not advance an inch but would rather withdraw a foot.

This is my very very humble "interpretation"...

One can back off, breathe and try to see the whole picture... instead of fixing/doing/acting/trying to/ NOW.

You do not have to shout out to the world about the places where you draw strength from... the people you learn from... your inner work. It seems nothing is happening... for outsiders... but you are preparing, you are moving forward.
Capturing the enemy without attacking,
Being armed without weapons.
This moment of silence and non-action gives you tools/rewards such as TRUTH and LOVE... and you can "capture" the enemy by knowing it is always lying, deceiving... by knowing what you can always expect.
There is no greater catastrohpe than underestimating the enemy.
Thinking you can control, cure or cause something someone else does.
By underestimating the enemy, I almost lose what I value.
If you think you can "win", you will ultimately lose yourself...
Therefore when the battle is joined
The underdog will win.
So when there comes a trigger/comment/memory/action/non action or whatever you see an "attack from the enemy" (the voice of your ego, other people hurting comments, what an alcoholic does/ does not do etc) ... you will win, by not even playing.
I may have got everything wrong, wouldn't be the first time LOL
