Help- haven't heard from AS for over a week
My sister (she's 25) still technically lives at home with my mom and dad. She ran away (like she always does) to her boyfriend's place and hasn't spoken to any of us in a little over a week. She usually acknowledges my mom's calls to tell her she's ok. Now the cell phone (the one she stole from my mom) is off and there's no contact whatsoever.
On the one hand, she's an adult. On the other hand, you can understand that there are some concerns for her safety. Would the police be able to do something like check up on her? Or is it not really allowed because she's an adult who has the right not to contact her family members? She doesn't have a job so it's not like they would be searching for her if she didn't show up one day. There has been a police report filed against the boyfriend in the past because he beat her up and drugs are involved. Not sure if my sister dropped it or not though. My mom is just worrying and wants to know if she's safe. What should we do?

I have been in this situation with my own adult daughter, many times.
What I learned is that the Police ( in my county/state) are not proactive unless there is reasonable cause to suspect she disappeared by force or if she is a danger to herself or others. It is not a crime to be an addict, go no contact or disappear.
If you live in a smaller town and know someone on the force, they may make a few inquiries, here and there.
I think if the Police spent time looking for all the addicted adults who go missing, there would be no time to do anything else.

Oh, I'm so sorry that you haven't heard from your sister. I understand how worried your folks must be right now. My husband filed a missing person's report over his AS, but that was because when family members called the young man's phone, someone we do not know was answering it.......
Good luck! I hope for the sake of your parents that she will be in contact soon.
Hugs, HG
