Don't know where I should post. From what I've read, given that I'm an older female alcoholic, there's probably not much of a "community" for me. However, given that I've sought out this forum, something in me wants to live.
I take six medications a day... HPB, thyroid, reflux, cholesrterol, lexapro.
I am 45 and still drink to forget the past. I am an alcoholic but my abuser was not. His hatred of me was targeted at my existance on planet Earth.
I was a stepchild of 4-5? when they married. will post more later

You are in the correct place for understanding and support.
That's for sharing a bit about yourself with us.
I drank for many years...did not quit until I was 52.
Wisest move I ever made.
Welcome to our recovery community.

Hi jwight
Welcome to SR
This is a huge community - I'm sure you will find many people of your own age, background and experience.
This is definitely a good place for help and support in dealing with your alcoholism.
I'm glad you've reached out - it's good to have you here

don't give up, you are capable of anything you set your mind to.

Age is irrelevant. I'm 49 and I too thought, especially when I wrote it down, nobody would be interested in writing to an old woman. Getting a hot flush as we speak.
I'm still a newcomer too, but people on here have been wonderful. You are definetely in the right place. At first I was curious about who, where and how old..... Now it doesn't matter. If a 19 year old has advise for me and it will help me, I will gratefully accept it.
Stay with us.

Welcome to SR jwight, the mix of folks here is the same as I have found in the rooms of AA.
Like Carol I was 52 when I finally got and stayed sober, I was not alone here nor in the rooms of AA.
There are plenty of ladies your age here and in the rooms of AA, some of them have many years of sobriety, some are still struggling to get it, some have weeks, months or about a year. Trust me you are not alone here or in AA.
If you decide to check out AA look for either an all ladies meeting or a beginners meeting, many women find starting out with a ladies meeting to be a bit safer feeliing, that and it lets them know that alcoholism is truly nondiscrimnatory. Alcoholism does not care who you are!

jwight.....all people matter no matter what demographic.
the one thing that surprised me about this site is the fact that all demographics are tormented by alcohol. for some reason i thought of all alkies as middle aged men like me. my own myopic thinking.
i was stunned by the number of ladies that suffer my affliction. the number of young people....in their 20's already aware of their problem. my heart breaks for them as i was not really struck down with this until my early to late 40's. i hope it's not too late for my body to recover and i don't think it is.
just know that you are welcome and people here care for you.
