Al-anon if nar-anon not available
We don't have any nar-anon meetings available in our area. Would I be welcome at an al-anon meeting if my SO is addicted to cocaine? He drinks as well, so maybe it would help me deal with both.
Any insight?

The f2f group that I attend welcomes all friends and family members that have loved ones that have been affected by alcoholism/addiction.
Good for you for seeking help.

Hi amy 79. Where I live there was only one Naranon meeting available. I've attended Al-Anon for many years despite that alcohol is not an issue for my qualifiers. I'm my main qualifier and I find all the help I need and more in my meetings. Another thing I did to supplement my own meeting was to attend some open AA and NA meetings- I found them to be very inspiring & helpful for my own recovery plan.

Amy, the first meeting I attended was Al-anon, just so happened that some members there knew about a Nar-anon meeting. In the beginning, I went to both (because I felt I needed more than one meeting per week and there is only one Nar-anon meeting close by) My RAD (recovering daughter addict) is both alcoholic & drug addict, however my feeling is addiction is addiction no matter what the drug of choice (DOC) is. And both programs are basically the same.
Good for you, for looking into f-2-f meetings. You will find lots of support there as well as here at SR!
Hugs,
Chris

Amy,
I'm active in Al-Anon although the addicts in my life are substance abusers. I'm sure you'd be welcome. My first meeting, I never felt less alone in a room full of strangers.
I agree with SB, the drug of choice didn't make my feelings, grief, or anger any different... it all hurt the same. Anyone who has loved an addict speaks of different details, but the dynamics of each story are the same.
Keep coming back!
Many Blessings,
Shaman

Thanks everyone.
I went to al-anon last night and it helped. I will continue to go, so I can have tools to help me deal with this. Everyone there was very nice and hearing their stories helped me.
