Progress, Progress, Progress
Tuesday of this week I depart for another state to visit my only child who
is 24.
It is time for the 2nd family week at his rehab. I am excited to be going.
I am excited to see him. He's been there 6 months already and doing very well.
It took 3 years to get him to go. He went due to my tenacity and his eventual inability to make his life work. He had to be coaxed to go.
I am grateful that I didn't give up on him. Now he stays because he wants to.
I don't think about his future...I just know today he is healthy, sober and
learning how to live w/o alcohol and drugs. Now he calls me weekly and we are closer that we have been in yrs. He is positive and loving.
I couldn't ask for more. I am blessed.
Addiction is a unique disease because it is one where most often the sicker one is the less likely he is to seek treatment
I could not accept that he was a lost cause although
it appeared that way.
Addiction is a unique disease also because family members can learn healthier
ways to live if hey work a similar program.
I am a better person because of my son's addiction. Hopefully, he can say this one day too.
I wanted to share how my family is getting better + closer.

Enjoy your visit. For now, he's sober and living a healthy lifestyle.... and you have come SUCH a long way since you first got here! Your recovery is shining. Life is good on the other side, isn't it?
