I said, "No."
I'm just having a moment of peace right now and wanted to share.
It's a little thing in all actuality, but big in my recovery process.
I was asked to attend 2 different work related events to help the new first year teachers. I really respect both people who asked, but I really couldn't be in 2 places at once. I kept trying to figure out a way to be at both, when really I only wanted to be at the one I already committed to in the first place. I was trying to rearrange my schedule as to not disappoint anyone.
So, I decided to say no to one event. I explained that I was already committed to the other. I appreciated the invite, though and the consideration for my help, etc.
The person wrote back and said no problem, thanks for letting me know early enough.
WOW! It was almost a little too easy to say no, thanks.
Now I'll have time after the event for myself and won't feel like I have to rush to the other one.
I don't feel guilty either for the first time in quite awhile! Progress...not perfection!
Have a great day! I'm off to decorate my classroom!

Great for you! Way to go!!
It is amazing how when we say NO we do not feel the anxity anymore-of trying to figure out how we are going to do this and that all at the same time.
It becomes a big relief when we can get to this point! I have reached it but still have a little work to do in this area-to make it stick! (I slip once in awhile not as often though!)
Kudos! Enjoy Aztchr doing that room and the event!

I always say yes...always did say yes.
What I found happens when I say no... it give others an opportunity to step forward and grow. We say yes to be helpful but by saying no we are more helpful. We increase the numbers on the team because ohers get to join in when we stop doing it all.
Also found that when we go to the party for congratulating people for a job well done...when we say no, we don't end up being the only one at the party.
Good job. A small step but a huge step at the same time.

I'm always amazed at how saying 'no' to just one thing equals a 'yes' to so much more. When I say 'no' I tell myself that it's okay to ration my time and energy, I feel better just because of that. The added bonus is that freedom to do my best or to just allow myself the option of doing _nothing_ without a self-induced compulsion to perform at all costs. The results of my 'yes' work are usually far superior as well because I'm not spread too thin and can actually enjoy my choices.
Good recovery, aztchr!

Although, there are still a few things I'm not ready to let go.
