What do you think about caffeine?
I'm wondering what you think about caffeine after sobriety? I wonder if I just shouldn't drink it at all. There's this voice in my head that tells me it's also a drug and maybe I should be rid of all substances like that. Also, isn't it really bad for your body regardless? I feel like it makes my heart race even more. Maybe it's psychological.

caffeine becomes a big part of my life when in sobriety, i take lots of walks to my local cafe to have a cappucino or expresson, i suddenly get an urge when i am abstaining from drugs and alcohol. its okay, better than drinking and snorting, so its fine if you have an urge, dont think too much about it, if that is your fix when in recovery take it, its better than doing anything else.

I stopped taking tea and coffee this week because i read that it takes away natural energy. I was so tired studying that i am on this diet for energy.lol. Its hard sometimes i just want to sleep in the middle of the afternoon...I also believe that sports everyday will substitute caffeine....the body starts using energy from the fat burning....Besides i don't know about you B2B, but caffeine makes me nervous after the second cofee....The first time i took cofee i was 19...lol...I hate bitter stuff.lol..i took it at 4pm, i couldn't sleep until 4am...lol.....

Coffee can cause palpitations.
Yes it is a drug. So is tobacco and aspirin and peptobismol. Some people may even include things like sugar and chocolate to that list.
Where do we draw the line on "drugs"?
I know which drugs to avoid because of their potential to make my life "unmanagable"
For now coffee, chocolate and pepto bismol don't fit that bill.

I don't know BtB...it's be nice to live totally drug free but how far do you take it...do you refuse aspirin, paracetamol, painkillers... ?
that being said, I figure, looking at what booze and it's little friends did for me, I think a healthy respect and a little self monitoring for whatever drug I'm ingesting regularly is probably a good thing to have....

Just a joke, my mom drinks like 5 or 6 coffees a day, when i take one i put a lot of sugar. She always says; you're not a true coffee lover, a true coffee lover doesn't need sugar on it.lol.

Some people are sensitive to caffiene. If it affects you negatively, I'd say you're wise to give it up. I know since cutting coffee out of my diet (about a month ago) my blood pressure has lowered back to normal.
As for abstaining because it's a drug? Eh... your personal choice and reason for doing so is all that matters.

Thanks.
A Few Thoughts on a cup of coffee
I have never had a cup of coffee and woke up not knowing where I was.
I have never had a cup of coffee and wanted to drink ALL the remaining coffee in the world.
I have never wanted to die when I thought about living a life without coffee.
My amazing relationship with alcohol was the opposite. Do what you feel you need to, however, I respectfully suggest focusing intensely on what will kill you.

I don't think caffiene is all that bad. I've been drinking coffee almost my whole life. It's just something that I have always done..and after eight days sober, and the exhaustion that seems to accompany it, the coffee has been a God send in the mornings.
It really messed with me in early sobriety. I had the shakes and anxiety to begin with so......
Doesn't bother me anymore. Just makes me pee. It messes with me a little if I drink a big cup of coffee at a late meeting, but I'm always asleep by midnight-ish.

Caffein is the best thing since sliced bread...ha, ha, ha...
I read in beyond the influence that, at first people might replace alcohol
with things lik coffee, chocolate etc. Go ahead....it's much better than the alcohol..
Worry about it later....
I was so happy to read that......
Hope3
