Has anyone tried home detox?
I was wondering if anyone has experienced a home detox program...I'm in Australia and have yet to discuss the issue with my doc but I would most appreciate any input regarding home detox.
I'm an agoraphobic/ panic disorder sufferer and also an alcoholic..Inpatient treatment is an impossibility.
Cheers Paul

Hi Paul,
It's an interesting question - one that I unfortunately don't have any experience with.
Hopefully you will find something close by that meets your needs - it's an excellent idea, for those who need it and can do it.
Let us know what you find out.

It wasn't fun. It was really dangerous. My blood pressure was 210/160.....My story is somewhere in the "what to expect" thread.
See a Doctor. De-tox from alcohol, I've read,is more dangerous than de-toxing from herion. You can stroke out, have a heart attack, or go into seizures.
I guess it depends on how much you are drinking.
I did a home detox a few weeks ago, it was supervised in that I had to meet with the help centre every day, it was over 5 days and I was given librium to help with the withdrawal effects. A high dose on Day 1 and then it decreases raidly over the course of 5 days. Librium is brilliant for helping with side effects. I think it is dangerous to go cold turkey without some kind of medication.
I also had to do it in a safe environment where there is someone who is 'responsible' for being there especially during the first couple of days. I was lucky enough to be able to stay at my sisters.
You should definitely do it under some kind of professional supervision.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
