Would a doc prescribe Xanex to a new RA?

Would a doctor prescribe Xanex to a recovering (1 month) DA who was on Vicodin, coke, crack, and oxy's to help hims sleep? Also, is it normal for a doctor to give sleeping meds at all in this situation?

It depends what the doctor is aware of. Not likely if they are aware of an addiction problem

Yes its possible. Some doctors have really no concept of addiction.

Also,it may be that DA did not tell the doctor the WHOLE TRUTH.

I appreciate the responses. It does seem odd that he isn't getting natural sleep, even though I'm sure it's hard for him right now to sleep on his own if he's also on Wellbutrin, which I've read resembles a stimulant. I just feel like I want to make sure that I'm correct in walking away if I do b/c I'm seeing some things that seem like red flags to me that are assuring he will not quit.

A doctor who understood addiction would not prescribe Xanax, the devil of benzo's, very addictive and h*ll to give up...should never be stopped without tapering...can cause seizures, this is one nasty drug.

xanax in and of itself is highly addictive.......................my AH recently went to an addictionologist.........for his insomnia mainly so he wouldnt be given something addictive.
He was put on a medication that is generally used for seizures but causes drowsiness..............so addictive meds are not REQUIRED to treat insomnia.

I would expect, that the doctor was not told the patient is a recovering addict

Most likely the doctor is not been given the whole story

Could also be that the doc is way out of touch

Or that the Doc is bent (used to get goodies from Doc's)
