I'm a Newbie...

I just found this site today and have become a member. I appreiciate all the effort that is given to help the folks out.
For the most part, my life is very blessed except for what I call the "addiction hour", that would be about 5pm. Which is fast approaching. I do not plan on taking a drink (drinks) tonight. My wish is to find the strength to make the choice not to drink. It's not even important anymore why it is I drink... It's only important that I do.
Thanks for the opportunity to share.

Welcome!

Plan ahead - I think that's what works. Make sure you're busy doing something else.

And keep posting.

You may want to explore some different recovery options. They have great suggestions on how to fight the cravings and the obsession when they hit. It is always good to change old habits and make new routines. Good luck and welcome...

I totally 100% agree with Anna! It is so much easier to fight cravings if you're mind is busy on something else. Maybe you could read a book, cook something, go through your wardrobe, clean the house (although thats not a favourite of mine!!)

Good luck - keep posting!!!

Thanks to all of you for your responses/suggestions. I appreciate it.
Well, it's 6:41 and I didn't take that drink. I'll be proud of myself in the morning!
At 5 I'm usually cooking dinner, which is what I did this evening. I chose to have a nice cup of coffee instead.
You all have a nice evening.

Carol...
I got a chuckle about the the all 5pm watch. It reminded me of many years ago when my husband and I would go down to the Oregon coast to camp and crab. We would often run into an older couple that would start drinking fairly early in the day. As the years past they started drinking even earlier... sometimes in the morning. They'd always ask if we wanted a drink and I always told him that I don't drink before 5pm. On one trip down he was wearing a baseball cap that had a clock on the front of it and all the hours indicated 5pm! It gave me a good chuckle, but I still declined until 5pm.
Later we learned that she died of alcoholism and we lost track of him. I still don't drink until after 5pm, but it doesn't matter because you can cause just as much damage as if you started in the morning. I imagine you'd just go to bed earlier!

Welcome to SR, Eager! Glad you found us. Stick around, read, and post some more. This is a great place for support and encouragment. There are a lot of people here who have made it through a great many 5pm's. If we did it, you can too!

Liss...
Yes, I made it through the 5pm. It gives me encouragement to make it through 5pm today. It's nice to wake up and not feel terrible.
I appreciate your good thoughts!
