Memory Loss

Good morning! I am continuously reminded that my short-term memory is crap (the long-term one was never that good). I'm wondering if I can expect improvement through continued sobriety or if I've just killed off too many brain cells? Along with that, I am feeling pretty flighty and ditzy lately and have never been that way before. Or if I was, I could blame it on the drink. Should I reconcile myself to the fact that I'm a bit ditzy or should I just accept that I'm ditzy for now and wait for it to get better? I'm only 11 days sober (at midnight -- with any luck), so I'm hoping it's just the detoxing.

I know it's hard to say without knowing me, but any similar experiences would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Sarah

Took a few months for the fog to clear in my head when i was first starting out. But it does get better, has for me anyways. Just give it time.

Peace.

11 Days!!

Super! Yes you are still detoxing. Relax Stay Sober.

See a medical professional if you are worried.
A check up is a wise move.
We often neglect having teeth eyes and body check ups when booze is rumming our lives.

Blessings...

Doctor, doctor give me the news!

Thanks -- I actually saw my PCP on Wednesday to tell her I had quit and to just have a check up because of it. They're doing some blood tests, but all should be okay. I didn't really mention the memory thing -- I guess I forgot!!

too funny! yeah, it's the detox time. I just quit smoking after being clean off alc & drugs for 4 1/2 yrs, and i'm having the same detox experience with that!! it's been 3 1/2 days, and wow, I'm just barely starting to feel ok again.
Water, water, water!
congratulations, you're doing great!!!

Sazzer, I'm the King of ... something, I forget LOL

I'm almost three months in and it's getting better. For the first month it would take me seven trips to get out of the house to work. Forgot keys, get keys forget ID, get ID forget wallet... you get the idea. One time I started driving to work before I remembered to take my laptop, went home, forgot why I was there and then forgot to take it again! I was a bonafide mess just getting to the car.

But it is getting better slowly, just give it some time and someday you'll only have to take two or three tries to get out of the house like me

Hey Sazzer
It gets better! My short term memory was horrible when I was boozin - it has improved dramtically since I stopped. Good luck!

Defintely gets better with time. I really began to "come around" around my 8th month of continous sobriety. What amazes me is that I never truly knew how screwed up I was until I got better. Sobriety is like peeling an onion.. each month a new skin is revealed! Congratulations on your decision to change your life!
