Esophagus Issues - Did anyone else experience?

Eosinophilic Esophagitis from drinking. When you stopped did it go away?

I drank 5-6 beers a day for last 5 years

Welcome

I have no personal experience to share Roger.
Have you seen a Doctor?

I would because. not knowing anything about it, I looked it up and it seems to be incurable so I hope its not that.
I hope its some kind of temporary irritation that will respond well to you not drinking

I never had what you had but I do suffer from IBS. After being alcohol free for 7 years it has basically gone away. I'm not saying your issue is IBS or it'll be cured, but I had oesophagus issues caused by my drinking, so yeah.

roger-
Have you followed up with your MD? Eosinophilic esophagus is an inflammatory reaction to an allergen in most cases- you will need to have this addressed medically.

IBS = Irritable Bowel Syndrome (which really means pain with no visibile cause).

I’m having these now. Not sure if it’s from stress or an actual issue. I had an endoscopy last year and had mild esophagitis but not like this. Have you done anything to help with it?

p.s. I’m only 6 days sober so maybe more time to heal??

Oh, absolutely yes I have personal experience with throat issues. The worst time was when I was out to dinner and couldn't swallow something - and it got stuck in my throat way down. Long story short, couldn't get it to come up, trip to emergency room, endoscopy to rescue a piece of pork and discover an inflamed throat. In my follow-up appointment, the Dr. thought that the throat issues were very likely due to the excessive drinking (I was honest with someone for once). That was my first real wake-up call. I do hope you will see a Dr, and when you do, I hope you will consider being honest about the drinking. For me that's been the hardest thing, but I found that the Dr. could help my recovery from throat issues a lot more effectively when he knew the whole picture.

I haven't had that but I had terrible, painful, excruciating reflux when drinking. Every day. I took so many meds for it. Since I stopped, I only get it a mild case if I eat too much ice cream

I was the same as Patcha, awful reflux which gave me terrible issues with my throat. Completely stopped once i quit and lost weight.
My uncle did suffer with his esophagus in later life after a lot of his time drinking.
Its pretty easy to add 2 and 2 together to see what my problem was being caused by.

Same here. I think I might have taken a swig of some Pepto once or twice since 5/9/22. Goodbye Prilosec, Tums, etc.....

Definitely check with your Dr. Towards the end of my drinking and for awhile after I stopped, I would sometimes wake up basically with bile in my mouth - was beyond disgusting and it burned so bad. Per my Dr I started taking prilosec and increased my water intake and within a month or so it was gone.

Be careful self diagnosing with Dr Google - we've all done it, and it pretty much just scares the crap out of us! Best of luck 👍
