read this at my expense. it's kinda funny
It's been 9 months since my last blood draw. I gotta get one this week-Doctor said it was necessary. These stupid labs have been like my kryptonite...about the only thing these days that can get me shook. I hate the waiting.
I asked my doctor if this was a good idea..this is how the conversation went...She's a friend of mine and has the patient of a Saint.
me: "Doc...what about covid? Is this safe for me to go to?"
doc: "Yes. We take extraordinary measures to minimize any contact between you and any other patients."
me: "But Doc...I'm HIGH risk" .....silence....
doc: "Yes, I know. I'm your doctor."
me: "Yeah, you took an oath"...(she cut me off)
doc: "You're not getting out of this. If you want a refill on your meds, we have to do the labs.THAT'S the OATH I took."
me: "Can we video conference it? (I'm getting desperate.)
doc: "NO!" How do you propose we get labs? You need to be seen."
me: long pause........"How are you feelin Doc? Any sneezing or coughing?" (she starts laughing)
doc: "Don't be late"
me: F$%&!
I love her dearly. She takes care of my whole family but it still really freaks me out to have to do this. This is what happens after 27 years or so of drinking and drugging. Tryin to hit this light-hearted...cause God knows everyone in my family thinks it's funny when dad struggles.
I say a lot..."sometimes you gotta be like iron" My family hears it constantly. My daughter passes me going into the kitchen and she says "How's it goin Iron Man?" the other 2 are laughing.
this is gonna suck.

What a gift you have in that physician.
After many many years, I finally lucked into a primary who really cares about me. She understands that I'm going to dig my heels and resist things sometimes, but she just hangs in there with me and keeps poking. In the nicest way. The last time I saw her, she said quite sincerely, "Thank you for giving me the chance to do some preventative care for you." It's been a long haul with my incessant returns to the bottle, and it's awful nice to know she's on my side regardless.
Glad your results came back good.
