Question about food, hypoglichemia

I have read here and on other places that many ex alcoholics have problem with hypoglichemia.

Is it really measured low sugar or just symptoms.

I have all symptoms but my sugar levels are normal, so I have pseudohypoglichemia.

Would you be so kind to answer if you have symptoms and you have measured your blood sugar

This sounds like something you should seek medical advice on.

I looked up the symptoms and I can get two of them, shakiness and irritability - I can get really cranky, when I am hungry. One basic piece of advice for newly sober alcoholics is to avoid hunger. The solution is to eat something and it is often suggested to have some candy around or a sweet drink like orange juice which can ease the initial symptom. When I was in the laughing academy, all us alcoholic patients had a jug of orange juice beside our beds. Apparently something sweet can also ease cravings which can be quite powerful in the early days.

I have stoped drinking three years ago and dont have any but any cravings towards alcohol.

I would not consider myself newly sober.

I have checked my blood sugar few times and it is fine

Hi Vlad
I was nearly diabetic but I turned it around with lifestyle changes.

I don;t know anything about pseudohypoglichemia though - never heard of the term before this thread.

Good for you on seeking out experiences on this but I';d also recommend you see a doctor about it. If you're being fobbed off, get a new doctor.

I like your reference to the "laughing academy", Mike.

I certainly have my diploma.

But, mercifully, just one.

I've had hypoglycaemia all my life and of course alcohol made it worse. The best way to manage the symptoms is to avoid refined sugar as it makes the pancreas produce tons of insulin to mop it up, resulting in further crashes. Eat protein and healthy fats and complex carbs like porridge oats.

I have went to shrink, a family friend.

She told me that the problem is that I am taking benzos and that I have some kind of withdrawal symptoms from them.

In my country diazepam and oxazepam are two most presripted medication. I was also using oxazeoam for my blood pressure and enlarged the dose when I have stoped drinking. Now I have to go of it. I have lowered the dose last summer from 150 mg to 75mg of oxazepam without any problem.

You can get lots if meds without any prescription at drug store.

Ler me explain it why, we have national health insurance that is kinda poor and it covers all prescripted meds but the state dont pay to private drug stores in regular time.

There is also not any control if drug stores are selling meds without prescrption

I thought if you can get these meds that easily that they are not so dangerous.

Shrink presxribed me paxil small dossage and seroquel

Benzoes - I suspected there was a missing piece to the story
I'm glad you saw someone about it, Vlad
