Day 8. There's money in my bank account! What sorcery is this?
It's such a strange feeling to see money still in my bank account 5 days after payday 😮 usually I'm just scraping by, waiting for the next week.
I think I like this sobriety thing.

I chuckled at your title - so weird, right?? happy you are here.
One thing I used for a long time once I quit drinking is a sober counter app - I used one for iPhones called SoberTime and there are plenty of others. My now husband and I shared it (he stopped drinking a few months after I did, and we started dating during our first year) and this one counted days and had a money function! It was astonishing to see things like how quickly I HADN'T spent rent on alcohol!
Keep going!

Tis truly amazing, isn't it? I calculated I was spending about $10.00 a day on beer on average, often more if I was in a vodka phase. My overall annual savings have been about $3000.00 by stopping drinking, not counting late fees and all the other bad financial decisions I made when drunk.
The worst decision I made while drunk was bidding on and winning a vacation in Mexico at a charity auction that turned out to be a glorified time share pitch when we got down there. I bid way too much and got basically nothing because air fare wasn't included. Terrible, terrible decision, and all because I was hammered drunk and raising my auction paddle like it was fan and it was 110 degrees!

I have saved at least £2500 since I stopped drinking.
I am able to put aside half of my weekly earnings and I am finding that saving money is actually EASY!
Alcohol in New Zealand is staggeringly expensive, I would be flat broke every week with nothing to show for it if I still drank.
I went out with my friend and spent a grand total of $16 the whole night on cranberry juice. It is not unheard of to spend $100+ in Wellington.
