The three R's of recovery
The three R's of recovery
We all heard of the three R's of school, right? Reading, writing and arithmetic.
Without quite realizing it, I have my three R's of recovery:
1- Reading (positive stories of folks overcoming mental health issues and/or addiction... also participating here on SR)
2- Writing (I always kept a journal, but I've stepped up the game and started a *very* rough draft of my memoirs)
3- Running/riding (or any physical movement/exercise at that. My go to is cycling, hiking and some running)
Feel free to comment and/or share what works for you.

I know for me running kinda is a multi-purpose solution. For one I like it so much i'd hate to drink the night before and ruin the following days run because i'm battleing a hangover. But also when i'm feeling all frustrated and anxious etc.. i always feel a lot better after a run. and since I feel all frustrated and anxious on a daily basis. Running has to happen on a daily basis. and since it happens on a daily basis there just isnt room for drinking in the equation.
So in quite a few ways something as simple as daily running for me really keeps me in check.

Recognize: That you have a problem, don't deny it. Addictions always serve an emotional purpose.
Reframe: The pros and cons of your behavior.
Replace: Replace the cons with high value behaviors that empower you.

Ok so I must be the only one who hasn't heard of the three Rs. But how does one ge three Rs out of reading writing and arithmetic ? I'm obviously missing the point.
There's the 3 Rs of recycling...reduce, reuse, recycle.....that makes sense.
Anyway.....let's see so the 3 Rs in recovery for me right now are accept, ownership and shut up. It's good those didn't actually need to start with R
