Alcohol with be replaced with a synthetic replacement in a generation?
What do you guys think of this: Scientist: We?ll stop drinking alcohol within ?a generation? after swapping it for a synthetic alternative
Apparently it gives the same effect as alcohol but it won't do damage to our bodies.

I hear variations on the same story nearly every Christmas, mostly from this same guy..
Assuming this stuff ever sees the light of day, the damage to my mind was actually worse than the physical damage.
I'd reckon if synthetic alcohol didn't give me a buzz, it would drive me back to the real stuff like NA beer did..
If it does give me a buzz then there's not much difference in the destruction I could wreak.
My body might last a little longer as my brain turned to mush.
Not much of a deal.
I'm really enjoying life as it is now. I wouldn't go back.
Hard Pass from me.

David Nutt is a proper doctor quite an interesting chap. He was sacked from a position advising the UK government on drugs/alcohol for, amongst other things, classifying alcohol as more harmful than heroin & crack, & horseriding as more harmful than ecstacy.
The Alcosynth thing is a bit of an odd one though, as it's a benzo-derivative, which I can't imagine would end well.

I didnt think anyone was promoting it, just putting it out there for thoughts.
I agree with the group, just another problem waiting to happen. Benzo based is better, really... just sounds like a another form of bad to me.
But the view that alcohol is a drug is right on. A friend of mine has been in there pushing for the same in the UK for some years and is getting some traction.
The ludicrousy of the idea that there are "drug" users with a problem but "drinking" is not only legal but subject to huge advertising spend is not lost on anyone here, but seemingly on the regulators.
This is especially clear at the holidays when we are inundated with pictures of sexy Santa's with booze. No-one minds the sexy Santas, but the rest...
