30 beers a day

I am 31 years old and have been drinking thirty beers a day for the past 10 years. I am able to take care of myself and several other people, but the fact of the matter is can't remember a day that I wasn't drunk.

Hello and welcome.
There were stretches of long periods of time when I couldn't remember being sober when I was drinking, too.
Long periods of times. And I'm sure they were because I was a drunk for thirty years. I'm still a drunk, I just don't drink anymore. But, I'm one drink away from a drunk. I have to remember that.

You've found a great place for support, and I hope to hear more from you.

That's a lot beer per day. If your going to quit do so with a doctor's supervision.
Welcome to SR.

With that amount of consumption over that amount of time, please do not quit without medical supervision.

I hope that with our support, and your doctor's help, you can get sober for good.

I am 53 now, but when I was your age I was consuming between 20 to 40 drinks a day everyday. It is no way to live. I spent 27 years in an miserable alcoholic haze - today I am 8 months sober and I feel alive again.

Get help and clean up your act while you are still young - don't wait till you are my age - things will be all downhill if you continue drinking.

Beer was my poison of choice too. You need to look at it as poison, because although you may not realize it, even beer can cause long term problems for both your physical and mental health. It took me 29 long years to come to that realization. I hope you can quit while you're still relatively young.

Welcome. You found SR, perhaps because you searched various questions or keywords related to heavy drinking.

Take some time to look around and read others' experiences, questions, etc. There is lots of support here if you need to quit full stop....it certainly sounds from just your consumption you aren't doing your body any favors.

Take care and hope to see you around.

I would think cutting down your daily consumption would be a good start. If you're doing 30 beers a day, do a case tomorrow, 3 sixes the next, so on and so forth, until you get to a level where quitting "cold turkey" won't be as dangerous and will allow you to quit once and for all.

Glad you're here, Orion.

I was your age when i got sober.

I concur with the other posters that you should seek medical advice in withdrawing from alcohol.

Please hang around here and keep us posted.

How did you decide to detox?
