I am sad. I need help.
I don't know how the weather is by you, but I was there yesterday in that dark place and then got my butt outside to feel the sun on my face. Problem was still there but I felt I was going to be ok. Take a few minutes and get some fresh air. Perspective is everything. Lots of warm wishes and take good care of you!!
I have had days of incredible sadness in sobriety...it's called "defrosting" and it is normal. We are not used to feeling all the feelings that come to us when we put the drink down. Sending you big hugs - you can get through this. XOX
A woman I know (one of my go to women for advice though not my sponsor) who has been sober like 35 years. I sometimes call her freaking out and she says "calm down, this is normal, you're two years sober and still thawing out. This takes time."
it was also a term sister ignatia used when looking at admitting alcoholics into st Thomas hospital in Akron. alcoholics that just wanted to dry out some with no intention of quitting for good, she called what they wanted defrosting.
Actually I found the greatest gift I could give myself was learning to love myself.
I spent so many years looking for people to 'complete me' until I finally realised that was my job not theirs.
I couldn't get any traction on that idea while I was drinking tho, because all alcohol did was fuel my self hatred and my despair.
Things worked out - I got sober happy and found peace, and love.
Things will work out for you too Ms Cb - but you have to take that leap of faith that getting sober - and staying that way - is the first step there.
