Thank goodness for meds!

Just had a horrible experience which would definitely have caused me to drink in the past. Fortunately I have been religiously taking my antabuse so that option was not available to me. I wanted a drink (or many) so bad. I wanted to sleep all weekend to keep from thinking. I credit my meds for making sure I got through this without drinking.

I took antabuse for 15 - 16 months.

I worked the 12 Step AA program hard, and I still do.

But I wanted all the help I could get.

Thank you for posting this. When I first told my dr I had a drinking problem I was offered antabuse but declined because I was afraid to take anything at that point. I am at a good place right now and might just give it a try for those times I am tested. You never know when that will be and knowing it would make you deathly ill is a great deterrent.

I had to fight to get antabuse. My primary doctor doesn't prescribe it, so I had to go to my former physician who is now retired. Have an appointment with a new psychiatric nurse practitioner next week to keep it up and also to get me back on my ADHD medications. Best thing I ever did was take antabuse. Saved me from drinking so many times and no side effects.

Good for you! I just started Antabuse 6 days ago and going on this medication has made me stop and think before I drink because I don't want to get sick. Keep up the good work! Stay strong. You can do this!
