You could always try the Ibuprofen and see how it works for you. If it doesn't provide you relief, then take pain meds as prescribed by your doctor.

I had a root canal last fall, with infection and did fine with Ibuprofen. I had a hysterectomy in Jan., and did take a pain pill at night, otherwise the discomfort kept me awake.

I just had an impacted wisdom tooth removed a few months ago. Though alcohol is my primary addiction, pills are second. I did have to take something for the pain. I was honest with my dentist. He only prescribed enough for two days, and I told my sponsor how many I had and stayed accountable to her. I did okay. Hope yours goes smoothly!
